Mini mascaras make ideal travel companions and lipstick samples let you figure out whether the texture and wear time is for you before you part with your cash.
With skincare, samples can save you a fortune too.
Sachets of masks act as one-off pampering treatments and you’ll be surprised by how many applications you can get out of a tiny eye cream.
There are so many places that you can pick up free beauty samples – both online and in stores.
Here are the places to head to first.
At online beauty retailer Feel Unique, you can choose five free samples every month.

There are over 400 options from, including brands such as Clinique, NARS and Stila.
All you need to do is pay the £3.95 postage fee – but you do get emailed a voucher to get this amount off of your next Feel Unique order if you want to purchase a full-sized product.
Beauty brands are constantly giving away limited free samples – often deluxe sizes – on their websites and social media accounts, but it can be difficult and time-consuming to find them all.
Websites such as Magic Freebies rounds them all up for you, so all you have to do is click on each link, fill in your details and wait for the postman.
SoPost is a sample distribution service that brands use to send out deluxe samples to potential customers ie you.
Promotions run for a limited amount of time, to tie in with a new product launch, and they use Twitter to get the word out.
To get a sample, you need to either have the special tweet sent to you by a friend or you can send one to a friend/your sneeky second Twitter account.
Search for ‘sopost.com’ in the search bar on Twitter and you’ll see what freebies are currently being shared.

The Clarins site is a great place to get free samples of their makeup and skincare products.
If you add a full-sized product to your online basket, you can choose three free samples and even pick the right shade for you.
Use the opportunity to road test their foundation or try out their many cleansers.
Foundation is one of the riskiest makeup products to buy blind.
Luckily, many high-end beauty counters such as Bobbi Brown and Giorgio Armani will happily shade match you, then give you a little sample pot to take home and try.
There is usually enough in these for two to three applications, giving you a good go at discovering whether they work for your skin or not.
If you head to a beauty hall that’s full of luxury counters, such as House of Fraser, you can work your way round them all and end up with a little haul of freebies.
