Free makeup and skincare samples are the ideal way to try before you buy.

Mini mascaras make ideal travel companions and lipstick samples let you figure out whether the texture and wear time is for you before you part with your cash.

With skincare, samples can save you a fortune too.

Sachets of masks act as one-off pampering treatments and you’ll be surprised by how many applications you can get out of a tiny eye cream.

There are so many places that you can pick up free beauty samples – both online and in stores.

Here are the places to head to first.

There are over 400 options from, including brands such as Clinique, NARS and Stila.

All you need to do is pay the £3.95 postage fee – but you do get emailed a voucher to get this amount off of your next Feel Unique order if you want to purchase a full-sized product.

Websites such as Magic Freebies rounds them all up for you, so all you have to do is click on each link, fill in your details and wait for the postman.

Search for ‘sopost.com’ in the search bar on Twitter and you’ll see what freebies are currently being shared.

Foundation is one of the riskiest makeup products to buy blind.

Luckily, many high-end beauty counters such as Bobbi Brown and Giorgio Armani will happily shade match you, then give you a little sample pot to take home and try.

There is usually enough in these for two to three applications, giving you a good go at discovering whether they work for your skin or not.

If you head to a beauty hall that’s full of luxury counters, such as House of Fraser, you can work your way round them all and end up with a little haul of freebies.
