ABOUT THIS FAIR:
Duncombe Park Antiques & Fine Art Fair organised by Harrogate based organisers, Galloway Antiques Fairs returns from 1-3 April 2022, and to add to the attraction of meeting more than 40 expert dealers, the venue of Duncombe Park is one of Yorkshire’s foremost historic houses and estates, and home to the Duncombe family. The original house was built in 1713 for Thomas Duncombe, and following period after the First World War was leased as a girl’s school, it was returned to a family home in 1985 when it was fully restored and refurbished.

WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT THIS FAIR:
Exhibitors at the fair include Jack Shaw & Co of Ilkley, 3rd generation silver dealer, will have an Edwardian gin pig with a silver collar and chain with a cork stopper. This is hallmarked London 1904 and was made by Elkington. It is 10inches long and 7 ¼ inches tall. This cost £875.00. A must have for serving those G & T’s
Malcolm Eglin Antiques of Northumberland will have a rare, large 18th century mahogany wing armchair with new upholstery for sale at £2650.
Silver dealer, Highland Antiques from Aberdeen will have a very rare silver and agate jewellery box with a large smokey quartz stone on top. This was made in Edinburgh by McKay and Chisholm around 1890. They operated from premises at 57 Princess Street in Edinburgh from 1889 to 1910. On four panels of the box has beautifully cut agate stones set in flower designs. The interior is lined with green leather and the silver panels are elaborately engraved with geometric designs. The lid fits snuggly and has a lockable clasp at the side. This is a superb piece of craftmanship and a must for any collector. Price is £5995.
John Newton Antiques of Hull will have this colourful globular shaped vase decorated in the silver studios of Friedrich Spahr between 1946 – 11949 with a superbly stylised design in thick silver overlay. The silver is further enhanced with intricate engraving. The vase is 17cm tall and 11cm across the rim, the lower silver band is stamped Spahr 1000 10 – the base with painted & US Zone marks. This will cost £795.
‘Hoop Girl’ & ‘Sunny Boy’ – These two dainty, finely crafted children’s figures of a Schoolboy with a book under his arm, his hands loosely tucked into his pockets and a young girl in a play jersey, holding a large hoop and stick behind her. Clothes and shoes made of bronze modelled and cold painted, each mounted on green onyx plinth bases. Designed by Ferdinand Preiss – Models 1179 and 1123. These will be available to buy from Mark Buckley Antiques of Skipton for £7695.
Rowles Fine Art who has a gallery in Ludlow will have some beautiful paintings and pieces of bronze sculpture. Here is a lovely oil painting by Dorothea Sharp titled ‘Evening in Catalonia’. Dorothea Sharp was a Landscape and figure painter who worked in oils.Dorothea Sharp studied art at the Regent Street Polytechnic and continued her training in Paris several years later. Like Elizabeth Forbes and Christabel Cockerell, she was at the forefront of the British Impressionist School, and is particularly well known for her informal subjects of children, often playing in the garden or on the beach. Dorothea Sharp’s work was exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1901-04, in the provinces and also abroad. She was elected to the Royal Society of British Artists in 1907 and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1922.
Ruth Hudson Fine Art from Wakefield will have this pretty pair of Macintyre Florian Ware vases with poppies and iris by William Moorcroft for sale at £2950.

Cover Image: Solo Antiques – Daum Messidor Summer landscape vase with an unusual and rare triple footed base shape. The vase is three sided and flares out to a three footed base. Excellent attention to detail and very fine acid etching. A beautiful piece in a rare shape. Signed Daum Nancy and with the Cross of Lorraine to the lower part of the vase, priced at £5450.
