On choosing a career in antiques, Cooper said: “I don’t know if I chose the career or it chose me! I am the youngest of four boys, and when growing up my parents always encouraged us to learn, within that learning was antiques. As boys we would be taken to antiques shops and fairs. At the age of 8, I was given my first antique, a fob seal which had belonged to my grandmother. From then on I was encouraged to collect more (and given many by my Dad!). From that point my love of antiques began.”
When Cooper left school, he had to choose between antiques and music. He chose antiques as music is his true escape. If he weren’t working in the antiques trade, he would be helping his mother with her catering and B&B business. The TV presenter is also quite a good cook!

On how he got involved in Bargain Hunt, Cooper said: “I first sold to Bargain Hunt in its early days, (also my early days as a dealer) when I had a stand at the Malvern Antiques Fair. I had no idea that one day I would be an expert on the show. About 5 years ago Bargain Hunt came to Leominster, then I first formally met members of the crew. To my surprise I was asked for a screen test and was invited to join the team of experts in September 2014.”
On his favourite part of his role: “There are various roles of being an expert on Bargain Hunt that I love, but I think my favourite is meeting, getting to know and putting the teams at ease so that they can enjoy their day hunting out those bagains!”
On his most memorable Bargain Hunt team, the dealer said: “In all honesty all my teams have been wonderful. The show really shows the diversity of people who love the show. I’ve had teams of friends, family members, older and younger, but all have a keen interest in antiques and the show. When it comes to a favourite? That’s a difficult choice, what I can say is that my very first team had great faith in my novice hands and helped me as much as I helped them!”
