In Mathematics, the multiples of 4 are the numbers that leave the remainder value of 0 when it is divided by 4. In other words, the multiple of 4 is the product of 4 with any natural number. For example, 4 multiplied by 4 is 16 and hence 16 is a multiple of 4. Some of the examples of multiples of 4 are 4, 12, 20, 24, and so on. Thus, all numbers which can be divided or are a product of 4 are multiples of 4. However, factors and multiples are essential concepts for students to solve many problems in their board examinations as well as in competitive exams. In this article, we are going to discuss what are the multiples of 4, a list of multiples of 4 and many solved examples with complete explanations.
What are the Multiples of 4?
Any number that can be expressed in the form of 4n where n is an integer, is a multiple of 4. As we know, if two values, p and q, are there, we say that q is a multiple of p if q = np for some integer n. In other words, the multiples of 4 are the numbers that leave no remainder (i.e. Remainder = 0), when it is divided by 4.

First 10 Multiples of 4: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40
For example, 24, 28, 32 and 36 are said to be the multiples of 4 for the following reasons.
4 × 6 = 24 4 multiplied by 6 to get 24 4 × 7 = 28 4 multiplied by 7 to get 28 4 × 8 = 32 4 multiplied by 8 to get 32 4 × 9 = 36 4 multiplied by 9 to get 36
Also, we can say
24/4 = 6 and the remainder is 0
28/4 = 7 and the remainder is 0
32/4 = 8 and the remainder is 0.
36/4 = 9 and the remainder is 0.
Since the numbers are exactly divided by 4, the numbers 24, 28, 32, 36 are multiples of 4.
Multiples can also be obtained through the repeated addition of a number as many times as required. For example, the first five multiples of 4 can be written as:

4 × 1 = 4
4 × 2 = 8 or 4 + 4 = 8 {here 4 is added for twice}
4 × 3 = 12 or 4 + 4 + 4 = 12 {here 4 is added for thrice}
4 × 4 = 16 or 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 16
4 × 5 = 20 or 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 20
In the same way, we write several multiples of the given numbers.
First 20 Multiples of 4
The below table contains the first 20 multiples of 4 along with the multiplication notation in each case.
Multiplication of 4 with Natural Numbers Multiples of 4 4 × 1 4 4 × 2 8 4 × 3 12 4 × 4 16 4 × 5 20 4 × 6 24 4 × 7 28 4 × 8 32 4 × 9 36 4 × 10 40 4 × 11 44 4 × 12 48 4 × 13 52 4 × 14 56 4 × 15 60 4 × 16 64 4 × 17 68 4 × 18 72 4 × 19 76 4 × 20 80
From the above table, we can say that the multiples of 4 are the results in the multiplication table of 4, as both are the same.
Some interesting facts about multiples of a number are listed below:
- Every multiple of a number is greater than or equal to that number.
- The number of multiples of a given number is infinite.

Find out the multiples of 4 from the list of numbers 16, 22, 28, 30, 36, 41, 44.
Solution:
Given that list of numbers are 16, 22, 28, 30, 36, 41, 44.
We know that the multiples of 4 are the numbers that are exactly divisible by 4.
Hence, the multiples of 4 are 16, 28, 36, 44.
Whereas, the numbers 22, 30, 41 are not the multiples of 4 as they leave some remainder value.
Example 2:
What is the least common multiple of 4 and 8?
Solution:
Multiples of 4: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40
Multiples of 8: 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 72, 80
Hence, the least common multiple of 4 and 8 is 8.
