York Festival of Vintage – 2023

One of the highlights of 2022 for me was being the chosen York event photographer for the fabulous Festival of Vintage, held at the York Racecourse. I was really happy to be chosen to capture the event again for 2023!

Sadly though I was told by the event organiser Keeley that this would in fact be the last Festival of Vintage. So I felt doubly honoured to have photographed the final event.

Nestled in the heart of North Yorkshire, the city of York is renowned for its rich history and cultural heritage. From the towering walls of York Minster to the winding cobblestone streets of the Shambles, the city is a veritable treasure trove of architectural wonders and historic landmarks. But once a year, the city plays host to a unique celebration of all things vintage: the York Festival of Vintage.

YORK RACECOURSE

Held at the iconic York Racecourse, the festival is a two-day extravaganza of retro fashion, music, and entertainment. Featuring a diverse range of vintage vendors, classic cars, and live performances, the festival attracts thousands of visitors from across the country, all eager to immerse themselves in the glamour and nostalgia of bygone eras.

The festival is a true feast for the senses, with a vibrant array of sights, sounds, and smells that transport visitors back in time. From the stylish swing dresses and dapper suits of the 1940s, to the psychedelic prints and platform shoes of the 1970s, the festival showcases the very best of vintage fashion and style.

LIVE MUSIC

But it’s not just about the clothes. The festival also boasts a packed schedule of live music and entertainment, with everything from swing and jazz bands to rockabilly and rock ‘n’ roll acts. Visitors can dance the day away to classic tunes, or simply soak up the atmosphere with a cold drink in hand.

For vintage enthusiasts, the festival is a dream come true. With over 200 vintage traders selling everything from retro homewares to rare vinyl records, there’s plenty to discover and explore. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or a curious newcomer, the festival is the perfect place to find that one-of-a-kind treasure or unique statement piece.

Of course, no festival would be complete without delicious food and drink, and the York Festival of Vintage does not disappoint. With a range of street food stalls serving up everything from artisanal pizza to gourmet burgers, as well as vintage-themed bars and tea rooms, visitors can indulge in a variety of culinary delights.

COMMUNITY

But perhaps the most memorable aspect of the festival is the sense of community and camaraderie it fosters. Vintage enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds come together to celebrate their shared love of all things retro, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that is truly infectious.

Overall, the York Festival of Vintage is a unique and unforgettable experience that captures the spirit of nostalgia and celebrates the timeless appeal of vintage style. With its diverse range of entertainment, vendors, and activities, the festival is a must-see for anyone with an interest in vintage culture, or simply looking for a fun and memorable day out.

I had an such a fantastic time again photographing the event. Everyone dressed in their best, the music to the community, it was a dream to photograph.
