A fun staple of the festive season are the Christmas markets where you can enjoy a mulled wine or delicious hot chocolate or buy the perfect presents – Christmas is not Christmas without a Christmas market.
Wales is home to great Christmas markets and there are many just across the border you can enjoy visiting. Many Christmas markets also have fairgrounds and ice rinks nearby which is perfect if you want to do something extra during your day.

The Cardiff Christmas Market will run from Thursday, November 10 until Friday, December 23, lighting up the Welsh capital. The stalls will be located on St John Street, Working Street, Trinity Street, and the Hayes.
Cardiff Christmas Market has not yet announced what traders and stalls will be at their market but you can expect to see craft stalls, food stalls, drink stalls, and a great array of different gift stalls.
Head to shopping hub Narberth for festive gifts and call into the 2022 at The Queens Hall, which will be held from Thursday, November 24 to Saturday, November 26.
There is free entry for all shoppers and dogs are also welcome. You’ll find an abundance of handmade products from all of their crafters.
The town of books on the Wales-England border is busy preparing for the return of the Hay Winter Festival. This year over the weekend of Thursday, November 24 to Sunday, November 27. See lovely Hay-on-Wye transformed into a festive winter wonderland brimming with Christmas cheer as a special guest turns on the town’s Christmas lights.
Alongside literary and arts events, there will be musical performances, workshops, mulled wine, mince pies and other festive treats to get you in the mood for Christmas.
Running from Thursday, November 17 to Sunday, November 20 in Llandudno is the Christmas Extravaganza. The Christmas Extravaganza is open from 10am to 9pm every day other than Sunday, when it closes at 5pm. There will be food, drink, gifts, funfair, entertainment and more.
There will be agriculture, horticulture, gastronomy and handicrafts, all enveloped in a yuletide ambience that will have you jingling all the way to Christmas at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair. The Winter Fair will run on Monday, November 28 and Tuesday, November 29.
This pre-Christmas festival will help you get ready for Christmas with delicious local delicacies, lots of entertainment, stalls to browse and you can even meet Santa. The festival is running in Llandeilo from Friday, November 18 to Sunday, November 20.
The Portmeirion Food and Craft Fair will run from Friday, December 2 to Sunday, December 4. The event will be held throughout the village, starting at 9.30am and closing at 5pm. Tickets costs £8 for adults and £4 for children.
Myddfai are running their Christmas Craft Fair on Sunday, December 7 from 10am to 4pm. There will be a wide range of local crafts and cakes available, as well as games and a quiz. Mulled wine & mince pies plus other tasty, home-made refreshments will be available from the cafe.

There will be a Christmas market at Tredegar House on Saturday, December 10 and Sunday, December 11. There will be stalls filled with local produce, from handmade jewellery to artisan cheese and the market will be open from 10am to 4pm.
Taking place on Saturday, November 19 and Sunday, November 20 there will be over 60 stalls located in and around the castle at the Picton Castle Christmas Fair. The fair is open from 10am to 4pm and entry for adults is £7 while children go free.
Aberglasney gardens are hosting their Winter Fair from Friday, December 2 to Sunday, December 4. The fair will be open from 10am until 4.30pm and there will be a abundance of handpicked exhibitors who are artists, makers, crafters and designers.
Running for a whole month from Friday, December 2 to Sunday, January 1 2023 there will be ten wooden Christmas Cabins on the Harbour Car Park in Saundersfoot. These cabins will host a variety of retailers and there are plenty of other festive activities going on in Saundersfoot to enjoy.
Pembroke Castle Christmas Market will offer over 80 stalls selling gifts, toys, local produce, clothing and jewellery. It will open at 12pm on Friday, November 25 and will be open throughout the weekend, ending on Sunday, November 26 at 4pm.
The Roman city of Bath will be running a Christmas market. Just an hour away from Cardiff on the train it is well worth the trip across the border.
The Bath Christmas Market will be running from Thursday, November 24 until Sunday, December 11. The market will be open from 10am to 7pm Monday to Wednesday, from 10am to 8pm Thursday to Saturday, and from 10am to 6pm on Sundays.
The famous German Frankfurt Christmas Market will be back in Birmingham in 2022. Not far from Wales this midlands city boasts a great Christmas market which will be open from Thursday, November 3 to Saturday, December 24.
There will be a large range of traditional goods and gifts and a selection of tempting food and drink. Pretzels, schnitzels, bratwursts, and roasted almonds will tempt your taste buds, all of which can be washed down with gluhwein, weissbeer (wheat beer), or tasty hot chocolate.
Another Christmas market very close to Wales is Bristol, which is just a quick hop over the bridge or by train under the tunnel. The Bristol Christmas Market will be open from Friday, November 4 to Wednesday, November 23.
There will be over 50 stalls selling an array of unique gifts and crafts. You can also enjoy the Jager Barn Bar, Christmas Igloos, and Ski Gondolas at the market.
The pretty town of Cheltenham in Gloucestershire is under an hour and a half drive from Wales and is running a Christmas market for 2022. The market will be open from Thursday, December 8 to Saturday, December 24.
There will be over 70 stalls that will run along the pedestrianised Promenade and Long Gardens in front of the Municipal Office and entrance to the market is free.
Easily accessible from north Wales is the Roman city of Chester. Their Christmas market will run from Friday, November 18 to Wednesday, December 21.
The Christmas market will be outside the town hall and cathedral. There will be over 70 stalls selling Christmas gifts, arts and crafts goodies, fudge, local spirits, and stocking fillers.

Also close to Wales is the city of Gloucester which can be found near the border. There will be the Gloucester Festive Orchard Street Market running on weekends beginning the weekend of Saturday, November 5, and finishing Sunday, December 18.
You can find the market at Gloucester Quays where there will be a selection of gifts and crafts and delicious artisan food products, some of the region’s very best street food vendors, and bars.
Close to north Wales is the vibrant city of Liverpool. Their Christmas market will run from Saturday, November 12 to Friday, December 23.
The market is moving location and will be at St Johns Gardens, William Brown Street, and the North Entrance of Georges Hall. Liverpool Christmas market will be open from 11am to 9pm Sunday to Wednesday and 11am to 10pm on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
There are many amazing Christmas markets in the UK and if you are prepared to travel a bit further afield here are the ones not to be missed.
Manchester: Running from Thursday, November 10 to Thursday, December 22
London: Winter Wonderland in London is a famed Christmas destination and the Christmas market will be running from Friday, November 18 to Monday, January 2.
York: Running from Thursday, November 17 to Friday, December 23.
Oxford: Running from Thursday, December 1 to Friday, December 18.
