Now that the clocks have gone back, the festive season seems close enough to touch. The days are shorter, the air is colder and, most importantly, the first Christmas markets begin in just a few weeks. With creative gifts, tasty treats and their unbeatable, celebratory atmospheres, Christmas markets are the perfect place to eat, drink and ignite the festive spirit. Here in the Peak District, we are lucky enough to be spoilt for choice when it comes to Christmas events, with most towns and attractions pulling out all the stops, drawing merry crowds from near and far. Chatsworth: Christmas Market

The Christmas market at Chatsworth House will last for over two weeks, featuring over 100 stalls, live music, outdoor bars and a vast range of heartwarming, festive food. Bakewell: Christmas Market

Taking place in the centre of the charming market town, home to The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop, our third pick is truly a quintessential English Christmas Market. With a whopping 200 stalls, the official Christmas light switch on and a firework display, Matlock’s Victorian Christmas Market is a truly memorable event with something for everyone. The festive extravaganza celebrates its 24th year this December and takes place close to Matlock’s other shops and cafes for those wishing to explore the town. Location: Hall Leys Park, Matlock

Buxton: Christmas Fair

Set in the beautiful Pavilion Gardens, the Buxton Christmas Fair offers stunning gifts, a brilliant atmosphere and even an opportunity to visit Santa in his Grotto.
