If we want to understand the immense geo-political changes that confront us today, and in the future, there is no better guide than historian and broadcaster Margaret MacMillan. To her we can turn to understand the historical context of such pressing subjects as the war in Ukraine and the rise of China as a superpower. She is a brilliant teacher and explainer.
Her books include the award-winning Paris 1919, The Uses and Abuses of History and The War that Ended Peace. Her most recent book is War.

Heralded as one of the greatest violists of his generation, Timothy Ridout is joined by two equally acclaimed colleagues, Matthew Hunt on clarinet and Alasdair Beatson on piano. Their varied programme includes a selection of Bruch’s elegiac, lush fragments, and Mozart’s popular and innovative Kegelstatt Trio with its unusual scoring for clarinet, viola and piano.

Probably Abergavenny’s biggest event, the Abergavenny Food Festival attracts visitors from all over the country. A programme of culinary events are spread out across a number of venues in the town, with demonstrations from top chefs, specialist exhibitors and various entertainments. Described as the ‘Glastonbury of Food Festivals’ (Carole Cadwalladr, Observer Food Monthly), this festival just gets better and better. Expect to try out all kinds of food and drink samples from local and unique suppliers, and definitely expect to be taking plenty home with you!
In November the skies above Abergavenny will be alight with colour as The Abergavenny Round Table Fireworks Extravaganza takes place.
Held every year at Belgrave Park, this spectacular event has grown to become the largest fireworks display in the area and is Abergavenny Round Table’s biggest fund raiser of the year.
All the profits made go to charities and good causes in the local area.
A fantastic night out for all the family with: music, food and drinks stalls, a funfair for the kids and, of course, a professional fireworks display!
